Silhouette

This is one of my favorite pieces.  It took more effort than it seems.  But the result is dramatic yet very simple.  (Click on the image to enlarge it.)

I started by painting the background black.  Then I placed Jane Davenport’s profile stencil on the page.  I went around it with silver paint on a sponge, just pulling it out from the stencil.  I stopped at the forehead because I wasn’t sure how I wanted to do the hair.  In my stamp collection, I have quite a few swirls and flourishes.  They’d make great hair!  So I stamped a few in white.  I wasn’t able to fill the hair in completely with the stamps, so I took a white pen and doodled lots of swirls to fill in the hair.  That worked out pretty well, if I do say so myself!  Then I carried the silver aura up over her hair. But what was she saying?  It was very obvious to me, because it’s at the core of everything I do…love.  Seven hearts because seven is an important number to me.  A little flourish under the word and a spiral by her eye.  Done!

I love this page.  The simplicity of the image and the message.  Love.  I use this word a lot.  I mean it every time.

I hope you enjoyed this little journey into my art process.  Let me know if you liked it.  I have plenty more to show you.  For now, I thank you for visiting.  And I wish you Love.

Oh Raine, this is one of my favorite pieces of yours! I remember seeing it in Life book and being mesmerized by it. I love the contrast and the swirls in her hair! Beautiful!

Thanks, Michelle! I’ve never done Life book…there must be something similar there. I may have posted it in BOD, though. I’m glad you like it.
